Concerned about the impact of uncontrolled development and industrialization, The National Trust was founded in 1895 by three Victorian philanthropists, Miss Octavia Hill, Sir Robert Hunter and Canon Hardwicke Rawnsley. The Trust was created to act as a guardian for the nation of the United Kingdom in the acquisition and protection of threatened coastline, countryside and historical buildings.
The National Trust is a registered charity, completely independent of the Government. Currently it protects the buildings, countryside and coastline of England, Wales and Northern Ireland in a variety of ways, including practical conservation. Its mission includes educating people about the importance of the environment, as well as the importance of preserving their heritage for the benefit of future generations.
In addition to over 300 historic houses and gardens, The National Trust protects and opens 49 industrial monuments and mills to the public. They also look after numerous other elements in the environment including forests, woods, fens, beaches, farmland, moorland, islands, archaeological remains, castles, nature reserves and villages. They hope to do so forever, for everyone.
Given The National Trust history, mission and actions, Alitex was proud to have been chosen to design greenhouses that, though small, would not compromise on quality or refinement. Alitex is honored to have its National Trust Greenhouses carry The National Trust seal.
